Why would a church buy a Directors, Officers & Trustees Policy?
Board members may be held personally responsible for the actions of the organization. A church would purchase D&O coverage to protect the church and its decision makers from personal loss due to a wrongful act. A common example of a wrongful act is the mismanagement of donated funds.
While Florida does have charitable immunity laws in place, this does not always protect individuals from incurring large defense costs when they are sued personally. D&O insurance is a way for the church to protect those that are giving their time and attention in helping to lead the ministry.
